16 July 2023
On July 16, Chalk Road visited Dieu Luong Secondary School in Phu Tho to assess facilities and engage with students and staff. We were welcomed by principal Mrs. The, vice principal Mr. Thinh, and form teacher Mr. Kien. Despite the heat, we discussed the school's challenges, particularly regarding the library and sports facilities, with 150 summer school students. Our plans to install air conditioning and revitalize the library sparked excitement. We also provided each student with a Vietnamese green sticky rice cake and gifted traditional lotus jams to the teachers. This trip marks our commitment to improving the educational experience at Dieu Luong Secondary School.

Dieu Luong - Phu Tho

On July 16th, Chalk Road embarked on a two-hour car journey from Hanoi to Phu Tho, arriving at Dieu Luong Secondary School. We were warmly welcomed by the school's principal, Mrs. The, dressed in a pink shirt, the vice principal, Mr. Thinh, in a white shirt, and the form teacher, Mr. Kien, in a blue shirt. Despite the scorching heat of mid-July which becomes even more palpable with the absence of air conditioning, we engaged in a thorough and insightful discussion about the project and gained a deep understanding of the students' circumstances and aspirations.

Chalk Road was able to host an intimate talk session with 150 students from grade 7, 8, 9, who are currently in summer school. We introduced our project and received exciting reactions from our plans to install an air conditioner and revitalise the library with more comfortable bean bags. We leave the session feeling even more fueled with a desire to better their learning spaces.
We also bought 150 Vietnamese green sticky rice cake as a gift for each student and traditional lotus jams for the teachers. Looking forward to our actual project at the beginning of August.
